Those Who Do, Do More.

In college, I played disc golf nearly every day with my buddies. I thought I was pretty good at it. When a friend suggested we sign up for a tournament on our course, I felt pretty confident I could win.

There was a group of folks I’d never seen on the course when I arrived. They had twenty specialty disks when I only had two. They warmed up and talked about strategy. I finished my McDonald’s breakfast burritos and did a few arm circles.

These folks came to play, and I began to wonder what I was doing there at all.

First up on the tee box, I threw one of the best discs of my entire life. It sailed through the air with the coveted s-curve flight path. My confidence was restored.

The next guy threw his disc twice as far with half the effort. The scene played out again and again for 17 agonizing holes.

There are two types of people in the world.

The few willing to go all the way and everybody else.

The ones willing to go all the way are studying, practicing, rehearsing, and creating more than the rest of us. They accept that balance must be sacrificed for greatness (at least temporarily).

It’s not something they try to do occasionally after work or on the weekends. It’s something they can’t not do every day.

The question to ask yourself is, which person are you?

  • Will you read every book on the subject?
  • Are you willing to be the person obsessing over every detail?
  • Can you stick to it long after everyone has gone home?

Somebody out there is answering yes to these questions.

Why shouldn’t it be you?
